Golf is a game of misses

Golf is a game of misses. It might not seem like it when you watch golf on tv or when you see some people play well, but no one hits the ball perfectly every time. When we first learn to hold a club and hit a ball, we miss it a lot. We miss it right, left, short and long. Sometimes we whiff and don’t hit the ball at all. The better you get the better your misses get. You miss it less right, less left, less short and less long. But you still miss it. So do the best players in the world.

Golf is the same as any sport or game. Take baseball for example. If someone hits .300 over his career he will certainly be in the hall of fame. But think about it…..that person failed .700 of the time. He failed twice as much as he succeeded. Golf is similar in that we don’t hit every shot the way we want. We simply hit a shot, its either good or bad, and then we find it and hit another. We need to approach every shot like its going to be the best shot we may ever hit. The same way a baseball hitter approaches every at bat like he is going to get a hit. Thats the difficult part, staying positive and having fun while we are improving. Thats when golf becomes mental. That is the challenging part.

Its ok to miss a shot. A missed shot gives you the opportunity to follow it up with a good one. Have fun learning the game and try and remember that we all miss it.
