Golf is a Game of Misses

Golf is a funny game. We are only as good as our misses. Or our miss hits. What I mean by that is that NOONE, it doesn’t matter how long you have been playing, hits the ball exactly the way they want every single time. If you asked the best players in the world after a round of golf how many shots they hit like they wanted too, most of them would say maybe one or two. Amazing isn’t it? And these are the best players in the world.

Golf is similar to hitting in baseball. If a baseball player finishes the season with an average of .300 he had a hall of fame year. But, think about this…..He failed 7out of 10 times. He only got a hit 3 out of 10 times all year. He failed more than twice as much as he succeeded. Golf is the same way, we are trying to make our miss hits better. Hopefully, with a little practice and understanding we can make the ball go a little straighter when we miss hit it. Instead of going way off to the right or way off to the left into the trees, we go a little to the right or a little to the left but the ball is in a better position to play our next shot.

Golf is a game. We are not expected to win every game that we play. How fun would that be? Once we learn that golf is not a game of perfect, and that failure is a part of it, like hitting in baseball, the game becomes more fun, we relax, and start to play our best. We have more fun practicing and playing. And most importantly, golf becomes a game again. Whether we shoot our best score or our worst we still have fun.
